Clearing Up Confusion About the Current Boil Advisory
We want to clarify some confusion regarding the current boil advisory for Town of Kinder water customers and boil advisories in general.
First, it's important to understand that the Town of Kinder purchases 100% of its water from the Southwest Allen Parish Water District (SWAP). This means that if SWAP issues a boil advisory for an area that affects town customers, those customers are also under a boil advisory.
When a boil advisory is issued, a water sample is taken after repairs are completed and sent to the state lab for testing. The time required for testing can vary—it may take a day or several days, depending on the situation. The state determines when the boil advisory can be lifted and notifies town employees accordingly.
The current situation is as follows: The Town of Kinder had to issue a boil advisory due to low water pressure caused by numerous leaks and water loss during the recent freeze. State regulations require us to issue a boil advisory in such cases. While our system has been repaired, SWAP— which serves a much larger area— is still working on its system and has not yet been able to lift its boil advisory.
Our Superintendent was advised by the State that it would not be useful to pull a sample for testing until SWAP is able to do the same and lift their advisory.
We hope this helps clear up any confusion, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as both our team and the SWAP employees work through this situation.
We assure you that our public works crew, along with the SWAP team, is actively addressing the issue. No one likes having to issue a boil advisory, and we are just as inconvenienced by it as you are.
